Home!

Our flight from Halifax was delayed 40 minutes, but we're finally home. Winston greeted us at the door, but Jenny hasn't shown herself yet. Now for a cup of tea and some much needed sleep.

Halifax - August 29

Whew, we made it to Halifax! It's 11:00 pm but it feels like it's 3:00 in the morning to us. We're going to stay up one more hour to get our internal clocks adjusted a bit closer to Calgary time, then get about 9 hours of sleep. Just one more plane ride ahead of us. Hooray!

August 29 - More pics of Edinburgh

We've reached Iceland and are waiting for our connecting flight to Halifax, where we'll stay overnight.

Roy put up some more photos of Edinburgh:

Tomorrow we'll finally be home, very late in the evening. It's been a good vacation, but we're both ready to just stick close to home for awhile.

Edinburgh - August 26 - some photos

We've been to several shows at the Fringe Festival, mostly comedy. Photo taking is not permitted at the events, but Roy has put up some of our little apartment and Holyrood Park:

Tomorrow we're off to London for a couple of days to see a play called 'Matilda', based on a story by Roald Dahl. Then we'll make our way back to Calgary via Iceland and Halifax, arriving on Friday.

Just around the corner from us, on a treed corner, there was an outdoor market yesterday (Sunday). Booths were selling organic meats, cheeses, lunches, snacks, woolens, chocolate and gourmet hand made marshmallows.

Having a wonderful time,

Connie

August 23 - Time to Catch up on some photo posting

We're enjoying the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, seeing mostly comedic shows. Now that we're settled into the apartment, Roy has had time to get a bit caught up on posting photos from our travels through northern Spain:

The castle in Olite, Navarra:

Basque Country and San Sebastian:

And here's the link to Roy's main page that links to these and the earlier photos:

Tonight we're off to a performance of Mike Oldfield's 'Tubular Bells'. We're hoping for some sunshine during the day so that we can have a pleasant hike up to the top of Arthur's Seat.

Ciao for now,

Connie

August 20 - Edinburgh

We've arrived safe and sound in Edinburgh, where we're staying in a two bedroom apartment in the New Town - #`5 Gloucester Lane. It's getting late (quarter to 8) for dinner in these parts, so we have to head out now in search of a restaurant before they start closing for the night. After getting used to dinner at 10:00pm or later in Spain, this is a bit of an adjustment.

Bye for now,

Connie

August 16 - North of Pamplona - a link to Roy's first post and photos

We had lunch in Pamplona today and continued on to a small Basque mountain town to stay in a hotel that Hemingway stayed in (is there any place he didn't stay?) on his way to a party in San Sebastian.

Here's a link to Roy's descriptions and photos of our stops earlier in the week at his website:

Enjoy!

Madrid - August 10-12

OMG, it's hot in Madrid! But we had a good time at the Sopia Gallery yesterday, viewing 11 rooms of Salvador Dali's works. Today we drive to Salamanca to see Maria's new flat and then on to Basque Country. Hopefully Roy will have time to upload a few photos this evening or tomorrow at Maria's place.

August 10 - London

Is it Friday already? It seems like we've been flying for days ... oh, right, we have.

After a hearty pub meal and a good night's sleep, we should be ready for the last flight that gets us to Spain.

I wish we'd had the camera a dinner. Roy ordered the 'Jumbo Shepherd's Pie'. They rang a bell when it was delivered to the table and told him if he could finish eating it in 20 minutes is was free. Not a chance in heck. It was enough to feed a family of four, maybe five.

Halifax - August 8, 2013

Not much to report today, except that our flight yesterday was uneventful (thank you, Westjet) and we're attempting to adjust our clocks a bit and relax until our Icelandair flight leaves at 10:00pm.

We're staying at Inn on the Lake near the Halifax airport. Comfortable, good food - just what we need.

We'll change planes in Iceland and lose a day, arriving in London midday on Friday.
